Steps to Potential LASIK Surgery:
Vision Correction Surgery is one of the most exciting technologies available to enhance your vision. At Greenville Eyecare Associates we would love the opportunity to help you through this process.
- The first step in preparing for LASIK surgery is to make sure you have had a comprehensive eye exam within the last year. During this comprehensive exam, our doctors will evaluate the overall health of your eyes to rule out any concerns that would prevent a successful surgery outcome.
- Once your Optometrist has determined that your eyes are healthy, we will proceed with the pre-screening process. Greenville Eyecare Associates proudly co-manages with two LASIK surgery centers in the Upstate, featuring the most experienced surgeons in the Southeast. Your doctor will discuss these surgeons with you and make recommendations for the LASIK surgeon who will best meet your needs.
- * If you are a contact lens wearer, you will be required to discontinue contact lens wear before any scheduled pre-screening appointments. This will give your corneas the opportunity to stabilize and will allow the surgery center and our doctors to obtain accurate information and testing results. The time required to be out of your contacts will vary depending upon the type of contacts you wear.
- After determining your LASIK surgeon, our office will schedule pre-screening appointments necessary to establish the parameters of your surgery. This is a two-part process. The first appointment will involve a corneal evaluation at the laser center. These tests provide information on the thickness and surface area of your cornea, and detect corneal imperfections that would prevent a successful surgery outcome. The second appointment is a dilated exam performed by your doctor at Greenville Eyecare Associates. This is a very strong dilation and will allow the doctor to determine your exact prescription for the surgery. At this appointment, your technician will review the risks and benefits of the surgery, and give you the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you might have.
- Your surgery will be performed at the LASIK center on an outpatient basis. After the surgery, your Optometrist will manage your post-procedure care. This involves the following appointment schedule:
- One day post-surgery
- One week post-surgery
- One month post-surgery
- 3 months post-surgery
- 6 months post-surgery
- One year post-surgery
